Pregnancy Yoga

Yoga is very beneficial to pregnant women on many levels. It teaches breathing techniques that will assist and create a sense of control during childbirth. Learning to breathe more efficiently encourages more oxygen around the body and to the baby therefore nourishing mother and child(ren). The guided relaxations soothe the nervous system and help with the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. Pregnancy yoga is a safe form of exercise to practice and the gentle posture work will release tension in the shoulders, ease back pain, open up the body and strengthen the spine and encourage the baby into the best position for labour. The resulting sense of wellbeing and harmony within mind, body and spirit makes for a calm, happy and healthy pregnancy.

Pregnancy yoga is believed to make the birth itself an easier experience as much of the posture work practised in classes helps to prepare the body for labour. Yoga can also alleviate Pelvic Girdle Pain. Much attention is given to strengthening the pelvic floor, which will speed recovery after the birth.

Last, but by no means least, the practice of pregnancy yoga enhances the connection and essential bond between mother and baby, nurturing both.

The classes are very easy to follow, there is always a variety of postures in the class and I find the pelvic floor exercises really helpful. I enjoy my pregnancy classes and always leave feeling relaxed and looking forward to the next. Lisa Marie
